AI News Digest Designer

The idea in one paragraph

When a preloaded news app disappears, the habit it served does not have to. This skill designs a personal AI-curated news briefing: you choose the sources and topics, you set the schedule, and an AI assistant assembles the digest and delivers it where you actually read - email, chat, or a note you open with your coffee.

What it is built on

  • Samsung News shuts down on 2026-12-21 at 00:00 UTC with no successor announced; Samsung gave no reason for the shutdown.
  • Samsung News was itself the fourth name in a line of preloaded Galaxy feeds: Bixby Home (2017), Samsung Daily (2019), Samsung Free (2020), Samsung News (2023) - Samsung Free was discontinued on 2025-12-16.
  • Google Discover is the existing built-in alternative on Galaxy devices, but it is a feed you scroll, not a briefing you receive.

Workflow

  1. Define your news diet (input: your reading habits -> output: a topic-and-source list). List the five to ten topics you actually follow and the outlets you trust on each. Cut everything you scroll past but never read.
  2. Choose the delivery (input: your devices and routine -> output: a delivery spec). Pick where the digest lands - email, a messaging app, a note - and when: 7:00 a.m. before the commute, or 9:00 p.m. to prep for tomorrow.
  3. Write the briefing prompt (input: topic list and delivery spec -> output: a reusable prompt). Draft the exact instruction your AI assistant will follow each run: length, format (headlines plus one-line summaries, or three deep reads), and what to exclude.
  4. Add the verification rule (input: your trust bar -> output: a fact-check step). Decide what the assistant must do with unverified claims: link the original source, flag single-source stories, and never present rumor as fact.
  5. Run the trial (input: the prompt -> output: a tuned digest). Run it daily for two weeks. Each day, note one story it missed and one it should not have included; adjust the prompt every few days until the digest earns its slot.

What good looks like

A briefing you actually open every morning: ten minutes, your topics, your trusted sources, delivered on schedule, with every claim linked to its original. You stop missing the old app within a week.

Safety rules

  • Never let the digest summarize paywalled articles it cannot actually read; link them instead.
  • Treat AI-written summaries as drafts, not facts - click through before sharing anything important.
  • Keep your topic list in your own words; do not paste account credentials or private data into the prompt.
  • If a story could affect a financial or health decision, verify it against the original source yourself.
