Sound-Reveal Launch Film

When to use

  • You're launching a product and a plain feature walkthrough video would get scrolled past
  • Your product has a distinctive sound (a chime, a click, a motor, a notification tone) worth building a film around
  • You want a 30–60 second teaser that works with the screen off — audio alone carries the story
  • You're announcing at an event and need a reveal moment that plays to a room, not just a feed
  • Your launch video needs a repeatable audio signature you can reuse across ads and social cuts

Workflow

  1. Pick the reveal sound (input: product + launch message → output: one signature sound + its meaning)
Choose a single sound that stands for the product: the actual product sound if it has one, or a designed cue (a rising tone, a soft click, a chord). Write one sentence for what the sound means ("the click = the moment it locks in"). Everything else in the film serves this sound. If you can't name the sound's meaning in one sentence, you don't have a reveal yet — keep digging.
  2. Script the sound-first arc (input: signature sound → output: beat sheet with audio leading video)
Structure in four beats: Silence (1–2 seconds of near-quiet so the room leans in) → Tease (the sound hinted at, muffled or partial, while visuals stay abstract) → Build (the sound grows clearer as visuals sharpen, cut on the rhythm) → Reveal (the full sound plays clean at the exact frame the product appears, then one line of copy). Audio leads every cut; the picture follows the sound, never the reverse.
  3. Write the one-line message (input: launch message → output: single headline + end card)
One line only: what the product is and why it matters now. It lands at the reveal and again on the end card with name, date, and where to get it. If the line needs a second sentence to make sense, cut it down — the sound already did half the talking.
  4. Plan the shots around the sound (input: beat sheet → output: shot list with timing and sound cues)
For each beat, list the shot, its length in seconds, and exactly what the audience hears at each frame (e.g., "0:08–0:11 — close-up of hands, hum rises from low to mid"). Keep the film 30–60 seconds; every shot must either set up or pay off the reveal sound. Shots that do neither get cut.
  5. Cut, mix, and test sound-off and sound-on (input: shot list + footage → output: finished film + two preview checks)
Edit to the audio waveform, not the picture: cuts land on beats and sound transitions. Mix so the reveal sound is the loudest clean moment in the film. Then test twice: once with sound on (the reveal should give a small jolt), once muted (the visuals should still read as a clean product reveal, with captions carrying the line).
