Capability-Keynote Launch Film

A keynote-style launch film: one big idea, shown not claimed

Turns a product launch into a 60–120 second keynote-style film: one launch thesis, three to five capability beats each ending on a visible result, real product footage, and a single call to action.

Capability-Keynote Launch Film

When to use

  • You're launching a product or a major version and a blog post won't carry the moment
  • Your product has three or four capabilities that only make sense when shown, not described
  • You need a launch video for a keynote slot, a livestream, or a launch-day homepage takeover
  • Your team keeps explaining the product differently — you need one canonical "this is what it does" film
  • You want the launch to feel like an event, with a build-up, a reveal, and a clear next step

Workflow

  1. Pick the one big idea (input: product brief → output: single launch thesis)
A keynote film sells one idea, not a feature list. Distill the launch to one sentence a stranger could repeat: "The first X that does Y." Everything in the film must serve that sentence. If two ideas fight for the top spot, you have two films — pick the stronger one for launch day.
  2. Choose the capability beats (input: launch thesis → output: beat list, 3–5 beats)
Each beat is one capability, shown rather than claimed: the screen doing the thing, the before/after, the moment it clicks. Three to five beats maximum — a keynote film is a highlight reel, not a manual. Order them by emotional arc: the relatable problem first, the most impressive capability last, the rest in between.
  3. Script the narration (input: beat list → output: full script)
Write narration that a presenter could deliver live: short sentences, plain words, one idea per line. Each beat gets a setup line ("Here's the part that used to take all afternoon"), a demo moment (the screen talks), and a payoff line ("Now it takes one click"). Read it aloud — if you stumble, the audience will too. Target 60–120 seconds total for a launch film.
  4. Assemble the film (input: script + screen captures → output: rough cut)
Cut to the script: title card with the thesis, then each beat as setup → demo → payoff, with consistent lower-thirds and transitions. Demo footage must be real product, recorded clean (no cursor wandering, no notification popups, no placeholder data that looks fake). Music sits under the narration, never over it. Pace: no shot longer than it needs to be, no beat shorter than it takes to understand.
  5. Polish and ship (input: rough cut → output: final film + launch kit)
Final pass: color and audio levels consistent across beats, captions burned in or supplied as a file, end card with the release name, date, and one call to action. Export in the formats each channel needs (16:9 for the keynote and homepage, vertical cut for social). Ship with a launch kit: thumbnail, one-paragraph description, and the one-sentence thesis for anyone introducing it.
