Wait on hold with the IRS and alert you when a human answers

A Pixel user used Google's Hold for Me to wait 90 minutes on IRS hold; the assistant stayed on the line and alerted them when a human returned.

What They Did
A Reddit user, powerbird101, called the IRS from a Pixel 6 Pro and turned on Google's Hold for Me during a 90-minute hold. The Assistant stayed on the line and was meant to sound an alert and show a message when a person returned. When the agent returned, Google told her the caller was still connected and would be back in seconds.
How It Went
It did not work out. The IRS agent said the IRS won't take calls that use Hold for Me, then hung up before the user could learn more. The 90 minutes of waiting were lost.
Worth Knowing
Hold for Me's announcement to the other party can confuse or put off staff at official or financial lines. The IRS bars recording calls, which may explain the hang-up.
Try it yourself with custom-built or unnamed agent

Call [organization, e.g. the IRS] at [phone number] and wait on hold for me. Stay on the line through the menus and hold music, and alert me the moment a live person comes on so I can take over. Before saying anything on my behalf or sharing any personal information, pause and check with me.
