Pop Motion Deck

Pop Motion Deck
When to use
- Your deck is correct but flat — every slide appears at once and the audience reads ahead instead of listening to you
- You are presenting a launch, a pitch, or a keynote where energy matters and the slides should feel alive, not corporate
- You want animations with a pop character — springy entrances, bouncy builds, playful transitions — but you have seen decks where the motion becomes the show
- You need a build plan (what appears when, in what order) for a deck someone else will present, so the timing works without you in the room
- You are reworking an existing deck and want to add motion deliberately, slide by slide, instead of applying animation presets to everything
Workflow
- Set the motion personality (input: audience + occasion → output: motion rules)
Define how this deck moves in one line: "Springy and confident, never frantic." Then set the rules: one motion vocabulary (pop-in, slide-up, or bounce — pick one family and stick to it), one easing style (a spring or overshoot ease, not a linear glide), a speed range (entrances 250–400ms), and a density limit (at most one animated element group per build step). Write the rules down and apply them to every slide — consistency is what makes motion feel designed instead of random. - Map the talk track to builds (input: deck outline + script → output: build plan)
For each slide, list the points in the order you will say them, then assign each point a build step: what appears, when, and what stays on screen. The rule is simple: the audience should never see a point before you say it, and never wait for a point you have already moved past. Mark the punchline builds — the reveal, the number, the before/after — and give them the biggest motion in the deck; everything else gets the standard pop. A slide with five build steps is the practical maximum; beyond that, split the slide. - Choreograph the hero moments (input: build plan → output: hero moment specs)
Pick 2–4 hero moments for the whole deck — the opening title, the key statistic, the product reveal, the closing line — and choreograph each in detail: element order, stagger (40–80ms between elements), overshoot, and a one-beat pause after the last element lands so the audience can absorb it. Hero moments get the full pop treatment; ordinary slides get the standard build. If everything is a hero moment, nothing is — protect the contrast between the two. - Design for the room (input: hero specs → output: presentation-ready settings)
Adapt the motion to real conditions: test on the actual projector or screen if possible (dim projectors wash out subtle motion), set slide transitions to the same family as the builds, and add a fallback version with builds flattened for PDF export or for presenters who prefer to advance manually. Set every animation to advance on click by default, never on a timer — timers drift, clicks do not. Check text legibility mid-animation: if a word is unreadable while moving, slow the entrance or shorten the distance. - Check accessibility and rehearse (input: full deck → output: checked deck + rehearsal notes)
Run the accessibility pass: provide a reduced-motion version (all animation off, builds still stepped by click), never convey meaning by motion alone (pair every animated reveal with a spoken line or a label), and keep flashing and rapid repetition out entirely. Then rehearse the deck out loud twice with a clicker: note every build that feels early, late, or overlong, and every slide where you found yourself waiting for the animation. Fix what the rehearsal finds — a deck that feels snappy in rehearsal feels snappy in the room.
