Ecommerce Conversion Kit

Ecommerce Conversion Kit

When to use

  • Your store gets traffic but orders do not follow, and nobody can say where shoppers drop off
  • You keep redesigning the homepage while the product pages — where buying actually happens — stay untouched
  • You want a kit that fixes the funnel in leak order, not a pile of random "conversion tips"
  • Your checkout abandons are a mystery because no skill in your stack owns recovery
  • You are about to spend on ads and want the store to convert the traffic you already have first

Workflow

  1. Scope the kit (input: your store and funnel → output: kit scope sheet)
Map the funnel in four stages — product page view, add to cart, checkout start, purchase — and find the biggest leak: the stage where the largest share of shoppers disappears. The scope sheet names the leak, the store's one primary buyer (who, in one sentence), and the kit's rule: fix in leak order, one stage at a time, and measure before moving on. A kit that starts with the homepage starts with the stage that matters least — the homepage is where browsers arrive, not where buyers decide.
  2. Inventory the conversion skills (input: scope sheet → output: skill inventory)
List the skills the kit needs, one per funnel job: Product page (turns a product into a page that answers every buy question: what it is, what it fits, what it costs all-in, when it arrives, how returns work), Photography brief (turns a product into a shot list — scale shot, detail shot, in-use shot, packaging shot — so shoppers can judge it without touching it), Reviews (turns buyer feedback into visible proof: verified reviews, photos from buyers, and honest answers to the critical ones), Offers (turns margin math into an offer that moves the needle — bundle, threshold, or guarantee — without training buyers to wait for discounts), Checkout (turns the cart into the shortest honest path to payment: guest checkout, total cost shown early, no surprise fees), Abandon recovery (turns a dropped cart or checkout into a timed, helpful nudge sequence), Post-purchase (turns a delivered order into a review request, a reorder path, and a reason to come back). If the kit has no recovery skill, every abandon is a permanent loss — and abandons are the biggest pool of near-buyers you own.
  3. Write the contract for each skill (input: skill inventory → output: per-skill input/output contracts)
For every skill, write the input, the output, and the pass bar. The pass bars are buyer-question bars: Product page — "a stranger can answer: what is it, will it fit my need, what do I pay in total, when does it arrive, what if I hate it — without scrolling to a second page or contacting support"; Photography brief — "every shot answers a question a buyer would ask holding the product (how big, how heavy, what is it made of, what is in the box)"; Reviews — "critical reviews are answered in public, visibly, within days — hiding them is not an option"; Offers — "the offer is profitable at the stated volume and expires on a real date"; Checkout — "total cost, including shipping and taxes, is visible before the buyer enters payment details"; Abandon recovery — "first nudge helps (answers the likely doubt), never just nags"; Post-purchase — "the review ask arrives after delivery, not before."
  4. Build the fix order (input: contracts → output: kit playbook + fix queue)
Order the fixes by leak size, not by ease: the biggest leak gets the first skill, and each fix ships with a before/after measure (stage conversion rate over the next two weeks, compared with the two weeks before). Provide templates: product page skeleton, shot list, review reply skeletons, offer math sheet, checkout checklist, recovery email skeletons, post-purchase sequence. The fix queue is the kit's discipline — it stops the store owner from redesigning the homepage while the checkout bleeds.
  5. Run one fix cycle and harden (input: playbook → output: hardened kit + fixes log)
Ship the first fix, measure for two weeks, and log the result honestly — including the fixes that moved nothing. A fix that moved nothing is information, not failure: it says the leak is elsewhere. Then move to the next leak. A kit is only real after one measured cycle — before that it is a list of opinions. Re-audit the funnel monthly; leaks move as products, seasons, and traffic sources change.
