Cobalt Ribbon Pitch Deck

Cobalt Ribbon Pitch Deck

When to use

  • You're raising a pre-seed or seed round and need a 10–12 slide investor deck that survives a 5-minute read
  • You're pitching a pilot or partnership to a larger company and need them to grasp the deal in one sitting
  • You're applying to an accelerator and the application asks for a deck, not an essay
  • You're presenting at a demo day with a hard 5-minute clock and no room for rambling
  • Your current deck is 30 slides of wall-to-wall text and investors keep asking "so what do you actually do?"

Workflow

  1. Nail the one-line story (input: what you sell, to whom, why now → output: one-sentence pitch + 10-slide outline)
Before any slide exists, answer three questions in one sentence each: what problem, for whom, and why is now the moment. If you can't, the deck isn't ready — the deck can't fix a fuzzy story. The outline follows a fixed spine: Title → Problem → Solution → Product → Market → Business model → Traction → Competition → Team → Ask → Appendix. Every slide earns its place by advancing the story one step.
  2. Build the evidence pack (input: metrics, customer quotes, market numbers → output: fact sheet with sourced numbers, blanks flagged)
Collect the numbers the deck will stand on: users, revenue, growth, churn, pricing, customer quotes, market size. Every number gets a source and a date. Anything you don't have becomes an explicit blank — "TBD: pilot conversion rate" — never a guess dressed up as a fact. A deck built on invented traction collapses at the first due-diligence question.
  3. Draft slide by slide (input: fact sheet → output: full draft — headline + 3 bullets max + visual note per slide)
Each slide gets one idea, stated as its headline: the headline is the takeaway ("Churn fell from 8% to 3% after onboarding v2"), not a label ("Traction"). Bullets support the headline, max three, each one line. Every slide also gets a visual note — chart, screenshot, diagram, or quote — because a slide with no visual is a memo wearing a costume.
  4. Design in Cobalt Ribbon (input: draft → output: styled deck — cobalt field, silver type, ribbon band, one idea per slide)
Apply the Cobalt Ribbon system: deep cobalt background or field, silver-grey type, and one thin ribbon band per slide — a horizontal or diagonal accent strip that carries the slide number or section. Same grid, same type scale, same ribbon position on every slide. The ribbon is an accent, never a takeover: if it distracts from the headline, it's too thick, too bright, or in the wrong place.
  5. Rehearse the talk track (input: styled deck → output: speaker notes + 5-minute / 2-minute versions + Q&A prep)
Write speaker notes for every slide — what you say, not what the slide says. Then cut two timed versions: the full 5-minute talk and a 2-minute version for when the meeting runs short. Prepare answers for the five questions every pitch gets: why now, why you, what breaks, what the money buys, and what happens if this round doesn't close.
